Gary Sarrat, Jr., Caterpillar Marine Key Account Manager for the Inland & Tug Segment, presented Caterpillar’s work in designing less carbon-intensive engines. A comparison of the operational and design considerations of a range of alternative fuels, including biofuels like biodiesel, methanol, liquified and compressed hydrogen, and battery storage, framed the presentation’s message that a mix of fuels and hybrid vessels are sure to play a role in the maritime industry’s journey to reduce its carbon footprint.
