Engaging on VARs: Jones Act Waiver Update and Member Action

The White House’s extension of the Jones Act waiver for an additional 90 days beyond its August expiration date initiated a new process for the Department of War to consult with the Maritime Administration on the availability of Jones Act-qualified vessels to conduct an individual voyage prior to determining whether the waiver will apply to that voyage.

We are now 30 days into the 90-day waiver extension, and the Maritime Administration has issued nearly 90 Vessel Availability Requests to assess the availability of Jones Act-qualified vessels.
