On December 4, President Trump signed the Vessel Incidental Discharge Act into law. This milestone achievement is the result of an intensive, years-long advocacy effort led by AWO and its members to reform a broken system of overlapping and conflicting federal and state regulations for ballast water and other vessel discharges. Now that VIDA has been enacted, how will the law change the status quo, and what should AWO members expect as implementation proceeds?

This webinar features discussion of these topics and insights from Jennifer Carpenter, AWO's Executive Vice President &COO, Craig Montesano, Vice President – Legislative Affairs and Caitlyn Stewart, Director – Regulatory Affairs.

Developing a Fatigue Risk Management Plan: A Guide for Towing Vessel Operators

On August 21, AWO hosted a webinar featuring discussion of the new guide, Developing a Fatigue Risk Management Plan: A Guide for Towing Vessel Operators, created by AWO’s Fatigue Risk Management Working Group.

The guide is a comprehensive document tailored to the towing industry, designed to assist AWO member companies in developing a fatigue risk management plan to incorporate into their existing safety management systems, with the goal of reducing fatigue-related accidents. Development of the guide was informed by recognized fatigue experts and the U.S. Coast Guard, which supports its integration into AWO member company safety management systems.

The webinar featured insights from working group members and AWO staff.
