AWO Mariner Workforce Forum: Harnessing Apprenticeships to Grow Your Workforce

Join us for AWO's fourth Mariner Workforce Forum to learn about ways you can harness a Coast Guard-approved apprenticeship program to grow your mariner workforce. In this Forum, you'll learn about the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies' (MITAGS') "Maritime Apprenticeship Program" and hear how several tugboat, towboat, and barge operators are participating in the program.

The MAP offers several pathways to train mariners with little or no maritime industry experience to obtain their mates' license in roughly 2 years through a combination of coursework and service on partnering companies' vessels. MAP is not only USCG-approved, but it is also approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs and eligible for veterans'/GI bill benefits.

AWO's Mariner Workforce Forums bring together member and industry experts to share practical knowledge on mariner recruitment, retention, and advancement. Forums include Q&A with the presenters, opportunities for members to share their challenges/successes and ask questions to other members, and provide input on topics for future Forums.
